Why bamboo?

Bamboo is hollow, but that's exactly what makes it strong. The hollow structure combined with dense fibres running the length of the stalk gives it flexibility most solid wood can't match, so it bends under pressure instead of snapping. That's why it's used in scaffolding across Asia, holding up entire buildings while flexing in the wind.
