ABOUT US

We are born of Culture

We represent lion dance.

And we represent lion dance very well.

The Seventh Lion was founded by a lion dancer who understands that lion dance is more than what people see during Lunar New Year performances. It's the early mornings, the sprained ankles and the pulled muscles. It's the long drives to performances, the shared meals after training, and the years spent growing together with your team.

Our work is created for the people who spend months refining movements most people will never notice. We create artwork that honour not only the spectacle of lion dance, but the life built around it and the people who dedicate themselves to it.

What Makes Us Rare

We aren't looking in on lion dance culture from the outside. We are built from within it. Every design tells a story from lived experience as lion dancers, as Asian diaspora, and as practitioners who understand the discipline, sacrifice and responsibility that comes with carrying this culture forward. While most generic lion dance products can only try to imitate what it feels like to be a lion dancer, The Seventh Lion creates work that feels personal and authentic.

Proud of Heritage

We don't just create merchandise. Our products are a reflection of identity for the people who have spent years training and performing alongside their team and their community. We create for the people who want to feel proud of their heritage and visible in their culture without compromising authenticity, because we are those people too.

Purely Lion Dance

Our products aren't simply replicating the aesthetics of lion dance, they are an extension of its culture. From the way we illustrate the lions and the stories we choose to tell, every detail comes from a genuine love and understanding of the practice and a responsibility to represent the culture with care, accuracy, and pride.

THE OBSESSED LION DANCER

Meet Cai

Hello! I'm Cai, the moving force behind The Seventh Lion. Way back in 2015, I joined my local lion dance team, the Chinese Youth League, and my whole life changed, truly. I had plans to move overseas to pursue a career in animation. I abandoned all those plans to stay in Sydney and grow with my team.

I had finally understood what it meant to be a part of a community - and one that spans several countries all across the world. I'd been adopted into one big family united by lion dance. Over the years, this community has given me purpose and kinship, and building The Seventh Lion is my way of paying it back.

Acknolwedgement of Country

The Seventh Lion acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional owners of the land on which we call home and where we conduct our business. We pay our respects to Elders, past and present, and recognise their continuing connection to country.
